PRINTING EXCELLENCE IN THE CAROLINAS RECOGNIZED

Sun Printing

March 6, 2010 (CHARLOTTE, NC): The Printing Industry of the Carolinas, Inc. (PICA)recognized Sun Printing of Orangeburg and West Columbia as a 2009 PICA Awards winner.  Since 1966, the PICA Awards have been the premier symbol of excellence for the graphics industry in North and South Carolina. The PICA Awards demonstrate a company's commitment to excellence in graphic communications.

Sun Printing received four Best of Category Awards, seven Special Judges Awards and six Awards of Excellence.  Over the past five years, Sun has received eleven Best of Category Awards, eighteen Special Judges Awards and fifteen Awards of Excellence for a total of forty-four awards.

The Printing Industry of the Carolinas, Inc. (PICA) is a trade association representing the graphic communications industry in North and South Carolina. North Carolina ranks as the 14th largest state print market in the United States with $4.4 billion in sales, 889 total printing establishments and 25,709 employees. South Carolina ranks 31st in the nation with $1.8 billion in sales, 337 establishments, and 10,208 employees. The Elizabeth O'Neil Verner Award:To recognize outstanding achievement and contributions to the arts in SouthCarolina, the Arts Commission annually presents the Elizabeth O'Neil Verner Award, the highest honor the state gives in the arts. The award honors South Carolina arts organizations, patrons, artists, members of the business community, and government entities who maximize their roles as innovators, supporters and advocates of the arts. In 1980 the VernerAwards took on a special significance with their designation as the official "Governor's Awards for the Arts." Sun Printing is the proud recipient of the Elizabeth O'Neil Verner Award for its contribution to the Arts in South Carolina.

SC Smart Business Recycling:  The South Carolina Smart Business Recycling Program 2009 Award for Outstanding Waste Reduction & Recycling Program: Sun was recognized for efforts in recycling 1170 tons of paper annually, cardboard, aluminum cans, aluminum printing plates, plastic bottles and containers, florescent bulbs, printer ink cartridges and silver from the printing process.
