Meet Morie, Sun's Environmental Icon and spokensperson, or should we say frog! Morie appears on Sun's Going Green publication and at special events. Have you seen Morie's 2010 environmental calendar which includes recycling tips and all the important earth friendly dates. Morie also speaks out through a green newsletter. Last year, as a result of Sun's paper recycling efforts the equivalents were saved: 18,173 trees, 4,382,000 KWH of energy, 7,483,000 gallons of water and 3,527 cubic yards of landfill space. We also eliminated 35,629 pounds of air pollutants.

Sun found the following in our trash, that we now recycle: 1170 tons of paper annually, corrugated cardboard, aluminum cans, aluminum printing plates, scrap metals, plastic bottles, containers and packaging, florescent light bulbs, ink & printer cartridges, silver, computers, electronic components & cabling, pallets and other packaging materials and batteries.

SUN PRINTING'S CERTIFICATIONS
FSC - Forest Stewardship Council Certification. SCS Certification Registration number SCS-COC-001690. The FSC certification establishes a chain of custody from tree to finished product, ensuring the end consumer that his printing and paper came from a certified "well managed" forest adhering to strict environmental and socioeconomic standards.
SFI - Sustainable Forest Initiative Certification. The SFI program is a comprehensive system of principles, objectives, and performance measures developed by foresters conservationists and scientists that combine the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, soil and water quality.
PEFC - Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes. The PEFC seal is a global organization for the assessment of national forest certification programs built upon sustainable forest management principles through a series of ongoing mechanisms supported by 149 governments in the world and covering 85 percent of the world's forest areas. The PEFC Council promotes sustainability-managed forest through independent third party certification. The PEFC provides an assurance mechanism to purchasers of wood and paper products that they are promoting the sustainable management of forests.
Green Seal - Green Seal is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding the environment and transforming the marketplace by promoting the manufacture, purchase and use of environmentally responsible products and services. Sun Printing supports these efforts and encourages our customers to incorporate Certified Green Seal products in their businesses and homes. To learn more, go to www.greenseal.org.
Sustainable Green Printer - Sun printing is in the process of becoming a certified Sustainable Green Printer. This eighteen month long process will examine all aspects of our printing process and place Sun as a leader in being an environmental advocate in our industry.
Recycled - Sun Printing continues to work with the SC Department of Waste Minimization to further identify waste streams that we can eliminate or recycle. With recycle programs in place for cardboard, paper, metal, ink cartridges, aluminum cans, plastics, and fluorescent lamps, Sun is leading the way to a cleaner, more earth friendly workplace.
